A great interview is a conversation, not a form. The best human interviewers don't slide a sheet of questions across the table and watch you read; they ask, they listen, they follow up. That back-and-forth is what puts people at ease and brings out their real thinking. So we gave the AI interviewer a voice: it now reads each question aloud in a natural tone, as well as showing it on screen.
Why a voice changes the experience
Reading questions off a screen in silence quietly signals “exam.” It puts candidates into a tense, test-taking posture, scanning for the trick, racing the clock in their head. Hearing a question spoken does the opposite. It sets a natural rhythm, gives you a beat to absorb what is being asked, and frames the whole thing as a conversation you are having rather than a test you are sitting. That shift in framing is small in mechanics and large in how people feel, and people who feel at ease give you their best answers, which is exactly the signal you want.
There is an accessibility dimension too. Plenty of strong candidates find dense on-screen text harder to process under pressure, whether through dyslexia, reading in a second language, or simple nerves. Hearing the question as well as seeing it meets people where they are, so the interview measures their ability to do the job, not their ability to speed-read a prompt.
You stay fully in control
A voice should be a help, never an imposition, so the controls are simple and yours:
- Prefer silence? Mute it in one tap; the question text stays on screen, so you lose nothing.
- Didn't quite catch it? Replay any question as often as you like.
- Answer however suits you: speak and we transcribe it, or type it out.
- Review before you commit: you can read and fix the transcript of your answer so a mishearing never counts against you.
The aim is a calm, predictable experience with no surprises: you always know what was asked, you can always hear it again, and you always get the final say on what gets submitted.
How it fits the rest of the interview

Still appearance-blind by design
One principle we will not compromise: the voice is the interviewer's, not a camera pointed at you. We deliberately do not do video interviews, because appearance has no business in a fair hiring decision and video quietly smuggles bias back in. A spoken question plus your own words, judged on substance, is the whole experience. It is the human warmth of being interviewed, without the bias of being looked at.
Preparing for a spoken interview
If you've got one coming up, treat it like any good interview: find a quiet spot, take a breath, and answer the question that was actually asked with a concrete example, namely the situation, what you did, and what happened. Can I turn the voice off?

Do I still answer out loud?
